Young Ida Grove garage man succumbs to blood poisoning
Blood poisoning resulted in the untimely death early Friday morning, June 30, in St Joseph's hospital at Sioux City of Forest A Southwick, young business man of Ida Grove. Mr Southwick had been suffering from the disease for some time, but no alarm had been caused over his condition until early Wednesday morning of last week when he was removed to the Sioux City hospital.
Shortly after his arrival by ambulance to Sioux City from Ida Grove Mr Southwick was given a blood transfusion and Thursday evening his condition was somewhat improved and his temperature had lowered considerably. However, during the night his condition took a sudden turn for the worse and he slipped quietly into the beyond at two a.m.
Mr Southwick came to Ida Grove February 24, 1937, and purchased the remaining assets of the Haefner Motor Co., leased the Sacquety Garage building and started Southwick Ford Motor agency on March 1st at that location. It was at this time he moved his family here from Des Moines, Mrs Southwick, son and daughter. His dynamic personality had already spelled success for him in his chosen profession and he was greatly admired by his co-workers in his organization. His happy greeting, joking and clowning will be greatly missed up and down our business row and among his many intimate friends.
Born in Cambridge, Iowa, July 6, 1906 Mr Southwick would have been 33 years old this Thursday, he graduated from the Cambridge high school and from these completed his education in the Des Moines of the Capital City Commercial college.
In 1930 he was united in marriage to Miss Grace Reiley of Des Moines who survives him with their two children, Forest Jr and Margaret Sally. He is also survived by three sisters, Mrs Ilo Grace Morley, Des Moines, Mrs Minnie Wilderson, Jamestown, NY, Miss Pearle Southwick, Chicago: two brothers Clarence W Southwick, Custer, SD; and George Southwick, Avalon, CA. Her is preceded in death by his parent Albert W and Irene Margaret Spar Southwick and one sister Edith Erickson.
The body was taken to Des Moines where services were held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon at the E.Carl White funeral home. Pall bearers were his business associates while he was in Des Moines. The remains were carried and tenderly placed to repose in Highland Memory Gardens just north of the city where the first seven years of his happy married life was spent. Those relatives and friends coming from a distance to the services in Ida Grove were: Mrs Southwick's father, Robert L Reiley, Des Moines; Mr and Mrs Richard D Reiley, Table Grove, Ill; Mr and Mrs R.J. Bykitt, Hattiesburg, Miss; Earl Olmsted and Miss Mildred Mahan, Des Moines; Mrs W.O. Morley and son Bob, Des Moines; Pearle Southwick, Chicago.
