James A. Amsden was an attorney in Lansing, Michigan and was married to Adeline Mary Dunn Amsden and died tragically in a one car accident.
News reports said… " today shocked state capitol circles where he was widely known as chief of the research division of the legistlative service bureau.
…Amsden, who also practiced law as a member of the same firm with Sen. Harry F. Hittle, East Lansing, was killed instantly Friday night in an auto accident on M-115 in Oscelola county. Prior to becoming affiliated with the legislative service bureau Amsden served as law clerk for the senate judiciary committee."
"Amsden was fatally injured in a one-car accident in Osceola county on M-115 four miles south of the Wexford county line. His wife, Adeline, 33, the niece of Clarabelle Dunn of Silver Lake Road and maid of honor to the 1938 National Cherry Festival queen, suffered severe shock and minor injuries in the crash, as did her mother, Mrs. John Dunn of Lansing."
" The three were on their way to the Amsden's cottage near Northport to spend the weekend. According to Cadillac state police, the car driven by Mrs. Amsden went out of control and rolled over. Mr. Amsden was thrown out and crushed when the car tipped over on him. Mrs. Amsden said she thought she saw a car pull out of the side road and she swerved to the shoulder of the highway. Amsden was a graduate of Michigan State College (1940) and the Harvard University school of Law and attended the University of Michigan law school. He had practiced in Lansing, Michigan since 1947.
During World War II, he served 4 1/2 years in the army, starting witha second lieutenant reserve commission and moving up to the rank of captain in 1942. He served overseas in the Pacific theater, particularly in the Phillipine islands.
Born to natives of Michigan, his parents were Mr. and Mrs. George Wallace (1888-1963) and Maude Lois (nee Somers) Amsden (1888-1968) of East Lansing. .James' siblings were Alice Kathryn (1918-1987 and John Luele.
And so, as a result of this tragic crash and fatality, so many lives were later changed in Dallas, Texas.
