Nancy Hannah McMahan was born on 18 March 1860 to Reuben and America Ann McElvain McMahan in Hamilton County, Illinois. Their were many siblings in her family.

Nancy Hannah McMahan married William Sylvester "Buck" Scott on 19 September 1879 in Lasater Precinct,Hamilton County, Illinois. There were four children born of their union.

The children were, Monroe Joshua "Roe" (Grace Ann Rumsey),
Esta Ann "Estie" (William Levingston, Alva J. Jones, Chester Frazier, and James Oliver Crowe), John Reuben "Rube" (Sophia Esther Stevens and Lattie Austin), and Mary Elizabeth (Abraham Landers).

In 1916 their grandson, Earl Sylvester Scott came to live with them as his mother had died. He remained with them until Nancy Hannah McMahan Scott died. His grandmother would let him fill her corn-cob-pipe and he love to tell that story to his children. When she died he went to live with his father and step-mother.

Nancy was buried in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Piggott, Clay County, Arkansas.
