Only son of Thomas and Catherine Wood Glass. He was born at "Rose Hill", the Glass Estate. He was educated at at Winchester Academy and Washington College. He was deputy clerk of the Circuit Court of Frederick County. For the last 15 years of his life he lived at "Glen Burnie", the Wood mansion in Winchester. His first wife was Nannie Luckett. They had no children. His second wife was Nannie Rebecca Campbell. Their children were: Katherine, Harriet Wood, Susan Louisa, Thomas Rutherford, William Wood II, Robert McCheyne, and Julian Wood Glass.
