Fred was a journalist. He attended the University of Montana, School of Journalism, at Missoula. He worked for various newspapers throughout his career, in Bismarck, Minot and Williston. About 1938 he married Mary Rosalind Stice. They had one son. During WW II he was in the Army and served as a Correspondent for the UPI. I am not positive but I believe he was present at the Nuremberg trials.
