David F Fulbright was born in Lincoln County in 1835. He enlisted for Civil War service on March 19, 1862 in Company C, 1st Artillery, 10th Regiment, NC State Troops (The Charlotte Artillery). On May 6, 1864, he was killed in action as his unit was heavily engaged as a part of Poague's Battalion in holding off the Union advance during the Battle of the Wilderness.. His brothers, Maxwell, Marcus, and Joseph died of disease during their Civil War service.
