According to his obituary in the Fremont Messenger, Burt was a farmer and a former one room school teacher. He belonged to Trinity United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school for 25 years and was song leader for 40 years. He was also an avid hunter.
In a 1966 family history, Oby Bonawit wrote:
"Burton has always been known as an energetic and effective farmer. He used to live on a farm near Longley in Seneca County, but returned to and is now farming the homestead of his father."
In 1987 he lived on Wood County Road 33. He died in the emergency room of Memorial Hospital.
