Alexander Virgin was born in Ohio and married Marie Thomas. He enlisted at Pleasant Grove, Iowa, as a Private on 22 Apr 1861 at the age of 20. Mustered in Co F 1st Iowa Infantry on 14 May 1861. Served through the term of that regiment and mustered out Co F on 21 Aug 1861 at St. Louis, Missouri. Alexander enlisted again at Pleasant Grove, Iowa, on 1 Oct 1861 as a Private at the age of 21. Mustered in Co C 4th Iowa Cavalry on 24 Nov 1861. Promoted to 1st Sergeant on 21 Jun 1862. Received a disability discharge on 10 Jun 1863. (Provided by Kathy Weaver)
