He was killed at Yemassee in the battle of Pocataligo. On the 22nd day of October A.D. 1862 in the 22nd year of his age. He fell in command of a section of Company I 11th Regiment of So. Ca. Volunteers. With his face to the foe his last words to his companions in arms were "Behave Like Men!"
