U.S. Senator. Graduating from the law department of the University of Michigan, in 1907, he was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Laramie, Wyoming. Moving to Sacramento, California, in 1913, he continued the practice of law. In 1938, he was elected as a Democrat to the United States Senate, serving until 1950. After his term he retired. After his death at age 77, his body was willed to the University of California Medical Center.
