Benjamin J. Zimei, 86, of Citrus Springs, Florida, died on Wednesday, March 23, 2011.
He was born in Mount Vernon, New York, on Monday, March 24, 1924, to Lewis and Mary (Darriar) Zimei. Mr. Zimei was a retired laborer in the Department of Public Works and moved to this area 10 years ago. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was in combat at the Battle of the Bulge. Ben was a "die-hard" New York Yankees fan, loved a great Western movie, enjoyed reading and keeping up with current events.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara E. (Hansen) Zimei, and he will be greatly missed by all of his family, children, grandchildren and his dog, "Killer."
A Memorial Service of Remembrance will take place on Friday, April 8, 2011, at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Citrus Springs, Florida. Inurnment will follow at Fero Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mission in Citrus Veteran's Shelter, 306 S. Park Avenue, Inverness, FL 34452.
Cremation arrangements entrusted to Fero Funeral Home.
