Stephen and Ellen's children by their marriage:

1. Francis Bentley (Bent) was born Jan. 5, 1863 in Iowa. He attended Alder Grove school and did not marry. He helped his mother with farming after his father's death in 1896. He also worked for several farmers in the neighborhood, including Henry Benjes. Bent died at 52 years of age on Jan. 20, 1915 and is buried at Alder Grove. Since he suffered from "lung fever" or tuberculosis, that is the probable cause of death.
