Elson "Babe" Hindman

May 25, 1920 - October 8, 2006

Elson "Babe" Hindman, 86, of 6700 N. Oak Road, Plymouth, died at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center of natural causes at 12:40 a.m. on Sunday, October 8, 2006.

Born in Bremen, Indiana, on May 25, 1920, "Babe" was the son of Floyd and Mollie Brockman Hindman. He attended LaPaz School.

An Army veteran, he served in World War II in the African campaigns and made seven landings into enemy territory. He was wounded in Sicily and received a Purple Heart.

A respected businessman, Babe was the owner and operator of Hindman Sewer Services.

He worked, worked, and worked some more. His integrity and honesty were above reproach and he taught his children those same values.

Babe was a great dad, a real family man and devoted husband to his wife of 64 years, Louise Colvin Hindman. Louise died less than a year ago, on November 27, 2005.

He enjoyed hunting, hanging out with friends in coffee shops, bird watching, and feeding skunks.

Babe is survived by a daughter, three sons and their spouses.

They are: Linda Hindman Querry and her husband, Don, Wheatland, Wyoming: Harold M. and Sandy Hindman, Muncie, Indiana: Robert and Page Hindman, Dallas, Texas; Dr. Michael (Mick) and Shana Hindman, Norfolk, Nebraska, and daughter-in-law, Linda Krieg Hindman, Mishawaka, Indiana.

Fourteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews survive as well.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, a son, Leon Hindman, who died in 1950, and a great-granddaughter, Annie Lynne Perry. Two brothers, Harold and Lloyd Hindman have also died.

Friends are invited to share memories with the family on Wednesday, October 11, 2006, from 3 to 8 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, Indiana.

Funeral service for Babe will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 12, 2006, in the funeral home. Burial will be in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.

Memorial gifts may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
