He married Dora Lee Blaylock Mar 18, 1938. They had one daughter, Robbie Ruth Henry, born Apr 7, 1939. Vestle and Dora Lee were divorced in Dec 1947. He married Ester Berlin King Feb 29, 1948. He adopted Ester's then 8 year old son, Daniel Clark King Dec 18, 1950. Vestle & Ester adopted Robbie's infant son, Jeffrey Lynn Henry, that was born Sept 21, 1958 after Vestle's daughter, Robbie, died May 6, 1960 from injuries she sustained in a car accident the day before. Vestle had three grandchildren Saundra, Angie, & Daniel K. Henry, the children of Daniel C & Shirley (Smith) Henry.

Vestle voluntarily enlisted in the United States Navy Mar 30, 1944 serving aboard the USS Sangamon and in the Navy until Dec 21, 1945. In the following from Wikipedia after that ship was repaired from damages occurred in January 1944 is their missions and war involvement after Vestle was assigned aboard. That includes May 1945 when the ship sustained heavy damage from a Japanese kamikaze that resulted in the loss of 11 of crew, 25 missing, and 21 seriously wounded.

During the Kwalajein Invasion in January 1944, she received damage. Following repairs, she served in the Marshall Islands area and participated in the Battle of the Philippine Sea that June. Covering the landings at Leyte, Philippines, in October, she also saw action in the Naval Battle of Leyte Gulf. When Task Force 77.4.3, "Taffy 3", came under attack by the Japanese Center Force on October 25, during the Battle off Samar, she joined the intense fighting and was damaged. After repairs at Bremerton, Washington, Sangamon participated in the Okinawa Invasion and was damaged on May 4 by a kamikaze, resulting in damage to her flight deck, along with the loss of 11 of crew, 25 missing, and 21 seriously wounded. In June, she arrived at Norfolk, Virginia, and was under repairs when the Japanese surrendered in mid-August. Decommissioned on October 24, Sangamon was sold in February 1948.
