Evelyn (Shearouse) Harrelson
June 29, 1913 - June 29, 2012

The earthly life of EVELYN SHEAROUSE HARRELSON (widow of Eddie Harrelson) ended on June 29, 2012 at Memorial Medical Center while celebrating her 99th birthday. Born on the "old home place" to Jesse and Salome Hinely Shearouse on June 29, 1913, Evelyn was the youngest of four children. Her siblings (Rufus, Addie (Mrs. Carlyle Exley) and Henry) have all predeceased her. Deeply rooted in Salzburger ancestry Evelyn traced her lineage of both parents back to the original settlers at Ebenezer. In October 1929, when the country was tumbling into a financial depression Evelyn's world became more glorious when she accepted an invitation from Eddie Harrelson (Springfield grocery store entrepreneur) to attend a local carnival. One year later they married and shared 64 wonderful years together before his death. The Great Depression forced them to close their store and move to Savannah where Eddie obtained employment with the railroad. During the years of WW II, they worked with the USO and opened their home as a Bed and Breakfast to servicemen and military couples at no charge. She was an exceptionally sweet and loving individual with a magnet personality. She enjoyed entertaining friends and relatives in her home, especially to sit at her table and share a meal. She found joy in making various items and giving them to her family, friends and acquaintances, along with a smile and a hug.
She was the last surviving member of a friendship group The Maejee Club. She belonged to the Southernettes, Salzsburger Society, Eastern Star and Immanuel Baptist Church where she was a member of Friendship SS Class and Golden Gems. Evelyn was the reigning Monarch of the family, keeping up with all the great nieces and nephews, being involved and aware of everyone's lives, their new babies, and their activities. She was deeply loved by her immediate and extended family and was the "Queen of their Kingdom" which includes her daughter and son-in-law Carolyn and Ralph Fountain; her grandchildren Gene (Alison), and Edward (Joann) Fountain; Jill (John) Robertson; her great grandchildren Harris (Krista), Haley, Kirsten, Kylee and Kameron Fountain; Savage (Trey) and Artley Lynah; and her precious great great grandchild Addie.
Visitation: 1 - 2 p.m. Monday at Immanuel Baptist Church.
Funeral Services: will be Monday, July 2, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church with Dr. Morgan Kerr, and Rev. Ernest King, Jr., officiating.
