Michael was educated at the Beresford public schools in Beresford, South Dakota. His interests included piano, bicycling, and baseball; and, he was involved with the scouting program. In 1983, Michael was a member of the VFW State Baseball Championship team. In 1984, he was selected to attend Boys State. In January of 1985, Michael earned his Eagle Scout Award. His school activities included debate and golf; and, he was a member of the 1985 State Golf Championship team. Michael graduated from Beresford High School in 1985.
Michael attended the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, South Dakota. He served on the student senate and was a mber of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity.
Michael was survived by his parents, two brothers, three grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
