Melvin C. Richards, 80, a resident of the Liberty center area for 45 years. He was a farmer and maintenance engineer for the YWCA in Des Moines before it closed. Melvin served during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Marines. He loved spending time at the Liberty Center American Legion Hall. He never knew a stranger.
Preceding in death were his parents; sisters Elsie Crawford and Laveda; brothers Jim and Ray.
Surviving are his wife Shirley; daughters Sandra Salazar and Susan Fears; four sons Larry, Gary, David and Rodney; sister Mary Hall; 18 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
Visitation for Melvin will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at Peterson Funeral Home in Indianola. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2011 also at Peterson Funeral Home. Interment will be in Liberty Center Cemetery.
Memorials will go to the Liberty Center American Post # 661.
