Born July 28, 1939, in Robbins, N.C., the daughter of Ernest B. and Nina L. (Harmon) Sheppard, she married Clyde Bumgarner Jr. in 1956, in Pine Bluff, N.C.
Virginia was committed to her Christian faith and loved to be with her family. She was an active member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Genoa for many years.
Virginia is survived by her husband of 55 years, Clyde; six children, Shirley (Joe) Arcuri, Carol Alford, Barbara (Jerry) Callahan, Peggy (Terry) Klus, Clyde B. (Staci) Bumgarner and Christopher (Renea) Bumgarner; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters and two brothers.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her one grandson; and one brother.
Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 7, at the Faith United Methodist Church, 325 S. Stott, Genoa, with the Rev. Dr. Daniel Diss officiating. Burial will be at Lakewood Memorial Park in Elgin.
Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday at the local family-owned and -operated, Slater-Butala Funeral Home in Genoa, and from 10 a.m. Thursday until the time of service at the Church.
