Augusta - Shelton "Mark" Abelman, 77, entered into rest on Friday, March 25, 2011 at Kentwood Nursing Home. Born in Chattanooga TN, he attended and graduated from the University of Chattanooga. Serving in the US Army during the Korean War, he was a Jewish War Veteran. Mr. Abelman lived in the Augusta area for many years. In his later years, he lived in the Atlanta area. He was a former President of Congregation Children of Israel, Augusta, a member of Temple Emanuel-El of Atlanta, where he worked, volunteered and also was a member of the Brotherhood of the Temple. Mr. Abelman was very active in many charitable organizations in the Atlanta area. Survivors include his wife, Sonia "Sunni" Abelman; daughter and son-in-law Heidi A. (Tom) Brown; son and daughter-in-law Harris M. (Gloria) Abelman; stepdaughter Jill (Brian) Friedman; stepsons Steven (Lou Ann) Grossberg and Philip (Angelica) Grossberg; sister and brother-in-law Myra and Isaac "Buddy" Jolles; eleven grandchildren; one niece and two nephews. Graveside funeral services will be held 1 pm Monday, March 28, 2011 at Westover Memorial Park with Rabbi Robert Klensin officiating. Memorials may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association: GA Chapter APDA, P.O. Box 49416, Atlanta GA 30359 or charity of your choice.
