Born Sept. 11, 1950, in Chambersburg, he was a son of Floe M. Stayer Covalt of Chambersburg and the late Robert H. Covalt.
He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Newville.
Mr. Covalt earned a bachelor's degree in 1977 from Shippensburg University and a second bachelor's degree in 1989 from Pennsylvania State University.
He was an environmental engineer at Carlisle Barracks, Carlisle.
Surviving are his wife, Diane L. Fredericks Covalt; a daughter and two sons, Marie E., Aaron H. and Christopher W., all at home; and a sister, Sue McLaughlin of Orrstown. A niece preceded him in death.
Burial will be Monday in Pleasant Hall Cemetery, Pleasant Hall.
