Don Carlos was born in Springtown, Wise County, TX. He moved with his family to Nida, Ok where he married Dovie Murray in 1911. In 1919 he and his wife and children moved to Canada where he became a naturalized citizen. A 17 year old daughter Presha died there and is buried in Peace River, Alberta. He and Dovie later separated. He died after being hit by a car and is buried in Victoria, British Columbia.
