On January 16th, 1918, the death angel called away our father, Miles Jackson Segars, who was born July 5, 1837. Age 81 years, 7 months and 11 days. Was layed to rest in Herring grave yard. Funeral service conducted (by) Dock Jones.
He professed religion and his belief was in the Christian church. He was reared in Georgia. He was twice married and raised 7 children to be grown, 3 boys and 4 girls, but only 2 boys and 2 girls survive him. Had no children by the last union. Both wives passed away before him.
He served through the confederate army and was honorable discharged, then he moved to Alabama, where he spent remainder of his life as a honest and upright citizen and devoted to his and relatives to mourn his loss.
Come up higher is the Masters call and I will give the rest which is promised to the final blest., your race is run and a crown you have won.
Man that is born of woman is but a few days and full of trouble. No more troubles of this old down trodden world will he face, is his eternal resting place, but peace and joy forever ring.
May you strive to meet him across the eternal to never part from him anymore.
