Gate City, VA - Joan Amelia Peters, 72, entered into rest Monday, February 16, 2009 at her daughter's residence.
She was born in Savage, Maryland October 12, 1936 to the late Bedford Daniel Curry, Sr., and Elizabeth Reilly Curry.
Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Peters, Sr.; sons, Billy, Jr., Bobby and Danny; brothers, Donald and Bedford Curry, Jr.; sisters, Marion Jeffries and Norma Jean Tilley.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca and Mike Hagy, Nickelsville, VA, Mary "Suzy" Eaton and Dustin, Bristol, TN; sons and daughters-in-law, Larry Peters and Mary Davidson, Kingsport, TN, Jim and Phyllis Peters, Gate City, VA; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gerald and Barbara Curry, MD, Jack and Mary Curry, MD, Leona Earl Calcote, AZ, Roberta Jeffries, MD, Carolyn and Fred Smith, MD; grandchildren, Aaron Martin and wife, Renee, Ami, Alicia, Amber, Beth and Jamey Peters, Jessi, Andy and Holly Hagy, Joey Eaton and Colton Blevins; several great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence of her daughter, Rebecca. Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Steve Brown officiating. Music will be provided by the Lee Smith Singers.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, February 19, 2009 at Peters Family Cemetery, Alley Valley Community. The family will meet at 12 p.m. at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
