Dorothy Nice Blosser, 72, of Harrisonburg, completed a lifetime of service to others on Saturday, June 19, following a year long journey with cancer.

Family was with her at the Blosser home at the time of her death.

Dorothy actively chose to invest her life in other's lives. She found joy in serving the church along with her husband, the Rev. Glendon L. Blosser, whom she married on May 14, 1951.

Dorothy used her creative mind and strong faith to teach Sunday school and Bible school, mentor youth and speak at church retreats.

She was an active member of the Weavers Mennonite Church and a graduate of Eastern Mennonite High School.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are four children, Floyd and his wife, Janet Blosser of Harrisonburg, Diane and her husband, Ruel Burkholder of Linville, Phil and his wife, Donna Blosser, of Blooming Glen, Pa., and Myron and his wife, Rhonda Blosser, of Harrisonburg; and 14 grandchildren.

Her children and grandchildren knew Dorothy to be a wise and intelligent women whose open spirit invited them to share their lives and dreams with her.

She taught them innumerable skills in completing school projects, gardening, sewing, housekeeping, and building meaningful lives.

Dorothy was known as "Mom Blosser" to many youth who came to her house for meals and warm beds; she was known as "Sister Dorothy" to church members in Trinidad, where she and Glendon spent a year in missionary service and visited on numerous occasions.

Dorothy was born Feb. 17, 1932, in Newport News, daughter of the late Lulu and Henry Nice and twin to Daniel Nice of Williamsburg.

She was also a sister to Lu Heatwole of Penn Laird; Lewis Nice of Providence Forge and Ruby Ziegler of Newport News, George Nice of Williamsburg and Bertha Schaefer of Powhatan.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Henry and Cecil Nice of Newport News.

The family will receive friends Monday, June 21, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Martin Chapel of Eastern Mennonite Seminary.

Following a private burial, the memorial service will be held at Weavers Mennonite Church on Tuesday, June 22, at 2 p.m.

The Rev. Jeff Kauffman, Pastor of Weavers Mennonite Church, will officiate.

Memorial donations may be made to the Blosser Endowment for Caribbean Leadership Training, in care of Virginia Mennonite Board of Missions, 901 Parkwood Drive, Harrisonburg, Va. 22802, or the Weavers Mennonite Church Children's Department, 2501 Rawley Pike, Harrisonburg, Va. 22801.

Arrangements are by the McMullen Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
