"John T Mitchell Dead.
John T. Mitchell, Scott county's oldest citizen, died Friday afternoon at 4 o'clock at his home here. He was born in 1830 and was past 95 years of age. He had resided in Scott county all his life and had seen the county grow from a wilderness to its present high state. He was a firmer and merchant at Wooster for many years, but moved to Scottsburg in 1890 and had resided here since.
He is survived by three sons, John M., of this place; Edward B., of Oklahoma, and Harry G., of West Palm Beach, Fla.; one daughter Mrs. Dincia B. Hallowell, of West Hartford, Conn., one sister, Mrs. Mary E. Thompson, of Scottsburg. He was the oldest Odd Fellow in the county and the oldest Methodist. He was a man of honor and held in high esteem by all who knew him.
The funeral was held at the M. E. church Tuesday afternoon with burial in the Scottsburg cemetery."
