Robert W. Chally, 70 years old, of Newark, IL, died early Tuesday morning, September 24, 2002 at the Valley West Community Hospital in Sandwich, IL.
    Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 10:00AM at the Newark Lutheran Church with Pastor Charles Sampson officiating. Burial will be in West Lisbon Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Fruland Funeral Home in Morris, IL on Thursday from 4:00PM until 8:00PM. Military Rites will be conducted by members of John Martin Steele Post VFW 6049 and Morris American Legion Post 294.
    Born February 1, 1932 in Newark, he was a sons of Randolph and Julia Dahl Chally. He grew up and received his education in Newark and graduated from Newark High School with the Class of 1950. He later attended DeVRY Institute in Chicago. On September 24, 1960 he married Joyce Hatterberg. She preceded him in death in 1973. On May 7, 1978, he married Lois Severson Shields. They lived all of their married life in Newark. He was co-owner and service manager of United Auto Center in Aurora, IL. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.
    He is survived by his wife, Lois of Newark; one daughter, Beth (Mike) Neitzer of Newark, IL; six sons, David (Angie) Chally of Kearney, Nebraska, Robert Shields of Rhinelander, WI, Rev. Wm. (Lisa) Shields of Pontiac, IL, Rev. Michael (Tracy) Shields of Kearney, Nebraska, Mark (Jodie) Shields of Newark, IL, Kenneth (Michelle) Shields of Deerfield, IL; 25 grandchildren; two sisters, Edna Simpson of Joliet, IL and Ida (Howard) Hughes of Aurora, IL; several nieces and nephews.
    Preceded in death by his parents, one son, Bruce in 1973, one brother, Ervin Chally and one sister, Wilma Anderson.
    He was a member of the Newark Lutheran Church, Wayside Cross Jail Ministry and Gideons Society.
    Preferred forms of memorials are gifts to the Newark Lutheran Church, Wayside Cross Mission or donor's choice.
