"Funeral services for Gus W. Pharr, 81, first president of the Dallas Cotton Brokers Association, will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in the Sparkman Ross Avenue Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Mr. Pharr died Saturday at his home, 4211 Arcady. Born in Kenton, Tenn. in 1884, Mr. Pharr attended the University of Tennessee. He lived in Greenville before moving to Dallas in 1921 and opening a spot cotton brokerage, one of the first in the state. He was a member of the Highland Park Presbyterian Church and was a 32d degree Mason. The retired cotton businessman also was a member of the Dallas Cotton Exchange, the Dallas Country Club, the Dallas Hunting and Fishing Club, and the Ferndale Hunting and Fishing Club. Mr. Pharr is survived by his wife; a son, William T. Pharr of Dallas, and two grandchildren."
