Zola Ray Scott was the daughter of James Monroe and Thursey (Hatcher) Pendergraft. She grew up in Exeter, Mo., raised by her Uncle Mart and Aunt Maggie Hatcher on the old Hatcher Homeplace. Her Mother died in 1910, the day after she turned 6. On Feb 8, 1924, she married Albert Jasper Scott, in Mount Vernon, Lawrence Co., Missouri. Ray raised Monta Lee Scott (Albert's daughter) as her very own. She was well known county-wide for her good country cooking. While she had a "new electric" stove, she preferred to use her old wood stove. She taught her granddaughters to make their own doll clothes using her old treadle sewing machine. Ray was a wonderful Wife and Grandmother and loved by all who knew her.
