Gilbert Darwin Shaw was born in Fairfax to William Monroe and Abbie Judith (Phinney) Shaw on 19 Nov 1915. He married Almeda B. Maphet, daughter of Leonard Arthur and Millie Madeline (Decker) Maphet in Enid, Garfield, Oklahoma on 25 Nov 1937. They had two children, the oldest a daughter Judith Madeline and a son Micheal Gilbert born on 15 Dec 1943(deceased)on 22 Feb 2000 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Gilbert had been nicknamed as a small child by an old cowboy living in the Fairfax area. He called him Spec because he had a lot of freckles to go with his ruddy complexion and reddish gold colored hair. Spec was an athlete and starred in football in Fairfax High School. He went on to play for the Oklahoma A & M Aggies. He loved also to hunt and fish. He had a stroke in 1962 when he was on a fishing trip with close friends in Neosho, Missouri. He never completely recovered from this. He died on 11 Oct 1973 in Ponca City, Kay, Oklahoma.
