Born July 1, 1913, near Garwin, he was the son of Walter and Lillie Wall Bowen. At the age of six he came with his family to a farm north of Marshalltown where he received his education and grew to manhood.
On Sept. 15, 1934, he was married to Lottie Mae Kreiss and they had made their home in State Center until moving to Marshalltown a short time ago. Mr. Bowen was employed for the last 25 years as foreman of the Tio Shop for Lennox Industries.
Mr. Bowen was a member of the State Center Methodist Church, was Past Master of Terrestrial Lodge No. 276 AF & AM of State Center, a member of the Order of Eastern Star No. 308 of State Center and was past president of the State Center Community Club.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a son and a brother.
Surviving are his widow, a son and two daughters, Richard Bowen, Mrs. Jay Lundberg and Mrs. John Freeland, all of Marshalltown. Also surviving are four grandchildren, a brother, Lawrence Bowen of Marshalltown, two sisters, Corrine Bowen of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Harlan Harrington of Marshalltown and two nieces and two nephews.
Services will be held from the Grace Evangelical U.B. Church at 2 p.m. Saturday in charge of the Rev. Robert MacCanon, pastor, and the Rev. William Baddeley, pastor of the State Center Methodist Church. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at Estel-Perria Funeral Home.
