John Sevier Adams, 63, died at his home, 402 East Sullivan St. He had been in declining health for about two years.

Born in Mountain City, he moved to Kingsport in 1917. He was owner of Modern Laundry, with which he had been connected for about 20 years. He was also employed at Kingsport Press for about 25 years before retirement.

He was a Navy veteran of World War I, a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, and Kingsport Masonic Lodge N. 688. He was also a member of the First Christian Church, and a direct descendant of John Sevier.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Beatrice Younce Adams; a son, Charles Arthur; his mother, Mrs. C. D. Adams; two brothers, J. B. and Woodrow; five sisters, Mrs. Paul Slaughter, Mrs. Otto Allen, Mrs. Daniel P. Buck, Miss Mary Ellen Adams, and Miss Elizabeth Adams; and four grandchildren, all of Kingsport.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church, with Rev. Dr. L. Palmer Young and Rev. Herbert Stone officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

The body will remain at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home until one hour before services.
