She was probably baptized in the Lutheran Church. She went to Battle Creek, Michigan to attend nursing school. There she met Dr. Wallace E Newark, a widower with a son, Grayson. They were married in Chicago, Illinois January 26, 1903. She was 30 and he was 41. Grayson was raised by Ida. Dr. Newark had a sanitarium or hospital in Charlotte, Michigan. Ida's sisters Agnes and Nina went there for nurse training, Agnes about 1906-1907 and Nina probably about 1916-1917. Ida was in charge of the training and operation of the sanitarium. She did not have any children. Dr. Newark died in 1923 at age 61. She died in 1950 at age 77.

Mrs. Ida Berg Newark, 77, of 127 West Mankato Street, died yesterday in a Duluth hospital. She was a native Duluthian and was the last living charter member of the Duluth Seventh Day Adventist church. She attended Duluth schools and was graduated from the Battle Creek Sanitarium school of nursing. Surviving are five sisters, Miss Olyne Berg, Mrs. S. A. Rhode, Mrs. Stella Widner and Mrs. Nina B. Roberts, all of Duluth, and Mrs. L. E. Lambert, Virginia; two brothers, Sidney A. Berg, Inglewood, Calif., and Marvin R. Berg, Lansing, Mich., and a stepson, Grayson Newark, Jackson, Mich.

Charlotte - Mrs. Ida Newark, 78, died Wednesday at her residence in Duluth, Minn., where she moved 12 years ago after having been a resident of Charlotte for 35 years. She was the widow of Dr. W. E. Newark, prominent local physician, who died in 1928. Surviving are two step-sons, Erva Newark of St. Paul, Minn., and Grayson Newark of Jackson; five sisters, Miss Olyne Berg, Mrs. S. A. Rhode, Mrs. Nina Roberts, Mrs. Stella Widner, all of Duluth and Mrs. Laura Leonard of Virginia, Minn.; and two brothers, Sidney Berg of Englewood, Calif. and Martin Berg of Lansing. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. from the Pray chapel by the Rev. K. R. Krick and burial will be in Maple Hill cemetery.
