Anthony was the son of Shirley Nolan, and died aged 7 for want of a bone-marrow transplant. His mother founded a charity on his death to identify and match bone-marrow donors and the Anthony Nolan Trust is now a leading foundation in its field. Shirlet Nolan was awarded the OBe in 2000, and died on July 14th 2002.
