Eastport – John Pike Grady, 82, died Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at the Eastport Memorial Nursing Home. John was born in New Rochelle, NY on November 12, 1925, son of the late Stanley and Kate (Pike) Grady. He graduated from Shead High School and entered the U.S. Army Air Corps. John was a Veteran of WWII, serving with the 505 Aerial Bombardment Group flying B-29's from North Field, Tinian Island. After the war, he attended college to study print at the University of New Hampshire, Goddard College in Vermont, and the Black Mountain College in North Carolina. Upon completing college, John returned to Eastport, the city he loved, where he owned and operated the local newspaper.

Besides his parents, John was predeceased by 2 sisters, Elizabeth Swaluk and Jane Grady; and a brother, Stanley Grady.

Surviving are his sister, Doris Newquist of Eastport; four nieces, Carol Wasdin and her husband Frank of Orange Park, FL, Kay Ferguson and her husband Michael of Jacksonville, FL, Cindy Greer and her husband Perry of Orange Park, FL, and Dorinda Danneman and her husband Randy of Silver Spring, MD; two nephews, John Newquist and his wife Roxana of Woodvine, MD, Dale Grady of Rochester, NY, and Donald Sutherland of Eastport; and many great nephews, great nieces, and friends.
Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. (Mays Funeral Home)
