MISHAWAKA - James D. Peden, 80, residing in Mishawaka, passed away at 10:48 a.m. Friday, April 8, 2011, in his home. Jim was born October 30, 1930, in Lauderdale County, AL, to Johnnie and Annie Irene (Simpson) Peden. He moved to the Mishawaka area in 1949, coming from Alabama. Jim was a mill operator at Uniroyal for 42 years, and then worked in security for the University of Notre Dame for 17 years before retiring in 2008. He loved to do carpentry work, woodworking with his hands, gardening and reading. He attended the Church of Christ, and also loved studying the Bible. Jim enjoyed college football and was a huge Alabama Crimson Tide fan.

On July 3, 1950, in Lauderdale County, AL, Jim married Beverly J. Reed, who preceded him in death on April 18, 2006. He was also preceded by one daughter, Kathy Lynn Peden; one son, Michael Peden; one sister, Dorothy Waunita Stevens; and two brothers, Thomas Monroe Peden and Albert Lewis Peden. Jim is survived by two sons, Stephen (Patricia) Peden of South Bend and Jeffery (Peggy) Peden of Elkhart; 10 grandchildren, Chris, Sarah, Gabrielle, Brandy, Dawn, Shawn, Mike, Stephanie, Erica and Tracey; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Helen Marie Peden of Killen, AL.
