He was born south of Burket, Ind., September 25, 1872, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Clay Smith. He married Rosa Lee Andereck December 19, 1891, and lived around Burket until 1919 when he moved to Goshen as a farmer and day laborer. His wife preceded him in death.
Surviving are two sons, Jacob L. Smith of Burket and L. C. Smith of Morrilton, Ark., three daughters, Mrs. Etta M. Arnold, 1113 South Seventh Street, Mrs. Henry (Jenrose) Kefarber, 401 North Indiana Avenue, Mrs. W. H. (Evelyn) Foster, Lima, Ohio, 12 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at Reed Funeral Home, Mentone, Friday at 1:30 p.m. and the burial in the Palestine Cemetery. The Rev. Kenneth Hostetler of the Burket EUB Church will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. today.
