Mr. Smith was a veteran of World War II, a member of VFW Post 7117 at Worthington, IN, Redman Lodge, Tribe #80 of Coal City, IN and Coal City Church of Christ.
He was a graduate of Coal City High School with the class of 1929.
He was the father of Walter Joseph Smith, Sr., a grandfather of three and great-grandfather of two.
He was the brother of Mrs. Madge Smith Grafe, Herschel and Earl Smith; Uncle of John A. Grafe. He is also survived by 3 great-nephews, several cousins and other relatives.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 1986 at the Schoppenhorst Funeral Home in Clay City, Indiana. Brother Herb Woollard will officiate. Bural will follow in Fiscus Cemetery.
