"Grand ma" Kolb was the oldest person living in the town of White Rock and but few if any are living in the county that exceeded her years. She was born at Bavaria, Germany, December 30, 1802, and came to this country in 1857. She lived in New York for eight years when she came with her son George to White Rock and settled on the farm where she has since resided. She was endowed with a remarkably strong constitution and rugged nature, was active and industrious during her entire life and a woman that spent a large share of her time in outdoor work. She had always enjoyed good health and her last sickness was only of a short duration. Monday previous to her death she assisted the family in their washing and on Tuesday was about the house as usual. Soon after retiring Wednesday evening her son discovered she was worse and neighbors were called in who watched over her until Thursday evening when her spirit passed peacefully over the dark river to its Maker.
Mrs. Kolb was the mother of two children, one son and one daughter, the latter having died about two weeks previous at her home in Indiana. Her son George who is about 75 years of age survives her, together with a number of grandchildren and a host of friends and neighbors who will miss her.
The funeral occurred on Saturday afternoon from her late home, conducted by Rev. A. W. Hetrick. The interment took place at White Rock Center cemetery.
