Enlisted in Company K, New York 160th Infantry Regiment on 21 Nov 1862. Promoted to Full Sergeant on 01 Oct 1865. Mustered out on 30 Nov 1865.

Son of John W and Lodemasette Van Name, Alonzo was a Civil War Veteran. In 1870 Alonzo and his wife Harriet and two daughters, Louise age 2 and Carrie age 7 mo. were living with his parents John W. and Lodemasett Van Name.

Alonzo died after 1910 census perhaps in Buffalo, NY. In 1905 Hamburg, NY, Alonzo age 61, a widower, retired, was living with his younger sister Kate Van Name age 47 a bookkeeper.
