John Walter Ambrose, 94, of 11400 Stonecroft Court, Hagerstown, Maryland, died on Monday, May 17, 2010 at the VA Medical Center in Martinsburg, West Virginia.

Born March 19, 1916 in Washington County. Maryland, he was the son of the late David S. and Margaret Cook Ambrose. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Ann Ambrose on October 11, 1991.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Army. He was employed by Coca-Cola for thirty years. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. He was a life member and past President of the Alsatia Club, and a member of the Morris Frock, American Legion Post 42.

He is survived by two sons, David G. Ambrose of Baltimore, Maryland, and Ronald J. Ambrose of Martinsburg, West Virginia; one sister, Charlotte Sheeley of Quincy, Pennsylvania; two granddaughters, Rosa Ambrose and Alana Ambrose, both of Martinsburg, West Virginia; nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Ruth Pearl of Hagerstown. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Baer, and Elizabeth Rosenhagen.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p. m. Friday at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown. The Rev. Eric A. Norgard will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

Military honors will be conducted at the graveside by the Morris Frock, American Legion Post 42.
