He was born in Bradford on April 11, 1925, son of Charles L. and Mina (Peabody) Colby.
He was educated in the Haverhill schools and was employed in local machine shops for several years. He spent most of his career at Raytheon, retiring as supervisor in 1990 after 37 years.
He enjoyed summers at his camp on Silver Lake in Madison, N.H. and adored his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his son, Charles L. Colby III, who was buried in Conway, NH
