Lynden Man Dies In Alaska Route Truck Accident
Harvey Berkenpas, 25, Lynden, was killed Thursday in a truck accident on the Alaska Highway near the British Columbia - Yukon Border.

Bob Zweegman, 35, Lynden, driver of the Lynden Transfer truck, was in good condition in a Whitehorse, Yukon Territory hospital, officials at Lynden Transfer said Friday morning.

The accident, which apparently occurred in the early morning hours Thursday, was not immediately explained, according to Lynden Transfer. They had not yet been able to talk to the driver.

Berkenpas was apparently asleep in the truck's sleeper compartment when he was killed. He lived at 8826 Benson Road and a member of the First Reformed Church.

He is survived by the widow Pat; one daughter Stacy Ann; one brother Gerald of Sacramento; two sisters, Mrs. Lewis Van Mersbergen and Mrs. Kenneth Tiesinga, both of Lynden; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Berkenpas, also of Lynde; and many nieces and nephews.

Services are pending at Gillies Funeral Home.
