POND-Died, at his residence in West Livery, of heart disease, on Monday, July 30, 1888, Mr. Levi Pond, aged 64 years.
Deceased was an old resident of this city and a Veteran, having been a member of the 2nd Iowa Calvary and served his country faithfully and well during the rebellion. A braver man never lived and though he was not a member of the Grand Army of the Republic he always entertained a friendly feeling for the order, and by his wish Silas Jackson Pond took charge of the funeral services, which were held at the house at ten o'clock yesterday. The sorrowing wife and children have the sympathy of the entire community in their trouble.

A Sudden Summons
At half past six Monday eve, the community was startled by the announcement the Mr. Levi Pond had died suddenly, while hanging out clothes at his home on 5th street. The deceased was a hard working man of unusual physical strength, who for many years had been a familar character in this place. He was 64 years old and had been hard at work almost up to the moment of his sudden taking off. His disorder was heart disease. The funeral took place from the family residence on Wednesday morning and was attended by many citizens, among some large numbers of Veterans, who recongnized in his demise the last roll call of another "old soldier." He leaves a wife and a family of children who deserve and who will need the practical symphathy of the community.
