Country singer/songwriter. Member of the famous country performers, The Bailes Brothers, a brother act from West Virginia. Members included Kyle O. Bailes (born May 7, 1915; died March 3, 1996), John Jacob Bailes (born June 24, 1918; died December 21, 1989), Walter Butler Bailes (born January 19, 1920), and Homer Vernon Bailes (born May 8, 1922; died Dec 2, 2013). Grand Ole Opry performers during the 1940s. Co-founders of The Louisiana Hayride in 1948. They seldom worked together as an entire group, instead pairing off for performances. From the mid-'40s through the '50s, The Bailes Brothers were among the most popular close-harmony duets. Popular recordings included "Dust on the Bible," and "I Want to Be Loved." Johnnie, together with Webb Pierce, purchased radio station WJAT and built The Nancy Auditorium in Swainsboro, Georgia. He is responsible for bringing many country music stars from The Grand Ole Opry stage to Swainsboro, including Hank Williams, Jr., Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, and many others during the 1950's and 1960's. Together with his brothers, Johnnie is a member of The Grand Ole Opry and The West Virginia Music Hall of Fame.
