At Chico on 31 Jul 1923 she married Lloyd Austin, an instructor at the College of Agriculture at Davis. They were wed at the home of her maternal grandparents, John and Hattie Birch. After their marriage, the couple moved to Placerville where they settled. In 1946 they founded 'Rainbow Hybridizing Gardens,' which primarily specialized in Iris.
