James D. Sanford, Sr., 61, of Owatonna, died Monday, April 11, 2011 at St. Mary's Hospital.

He was born in Miami, Oklahoma. He enlisted into the United States Marine Corp on July 11, 1968 and served in Vietnam until his honorable discharge on November 11, 1969. He resided in California, Oklahoma, and Arkansas where he worked as a furniture mover for over 23 years with North American Van Lines and Graebel Moving Vans. He moved to Minnesota and worked for Alumacraft Boats and in 2006 he moved to Owatonna.

He is survived by six children, James Sanford, Jr., Fenton Sanford, Penny Abel, Camille Sanford, Mark Sanford of Owatonna, and Misty Slater. He is also survived by two sisters, Nancy and Patty.

He is preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Linda Land and second wife, Lynn Barber.

Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Friday from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM . Funeral services will be held April 15, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Michaelson Funeral Home with The Reverend Ron Wilson officiating. Interment will be in the Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.
