He was born either in Philadelphia or Indiana County, Pennsylvania, (both are reported) the son of Robert & Mary (Kelly) Dunlap. According to his death certificate, he was born in 1838, but that is questionable. Cause of death is listed as "chronic nephritis" leading to "uremia."
