Lonnie J. Norton, 87, a resident of Russellville, died Thursday, April 14, 2011, at Stella Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born February 5, 1924, at Pea Ridge, north of Atkins, to John and Hester Moore Norton. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran of World War II and was a member of Liberty Grove Assembly of God in Russellville. He was a mechanic for numerous years, he helped build the Dardanelle dam and was a self-employed truck driver until retiring. He enjoyed camping, fishing, working in his garden and sitting on the porch in the morning drinking coffee. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, A. G. Norton.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Mary Norton of Russellville; a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Don Bradshaw of Bentonville; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Dianna Norton of Russellville; two grandsons, Donnie Davis of Russellville and Steven Davis of Dover; two great-grandchildren, Tori Keener of Dardanelle and Seth Davis of Dover; a great-great-granddaughter, Kahlan Keener of Dardanelle; and other relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2011, at Oakland Cemetery north of Atkins with the Rev. Lance Pendergraft officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service.
Active pallbearers will be Don Bradshaw, Donnie Davis, Steven Davis, Kevin Keener, Mike Taylor and Michael Taylor. Honorary pallbearer will be Tony Taylor.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
