The eldest daughter of William ("Ott") and Rose (Schussler) Lightel, she was born Dec 28, 1906, at Burke, Washington. The family was from Tuscarawas County but lived in Washington from 1905 to 1922.
She married Henry Ashbaugh June 19, 1936. He survives, along with three sons, Michael E. Ashbaugh, Carrollton; Patirck H. Ashbaugh, El Paso, Texas; Timothy D. Ashbaugh, New Phia; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Also surviving are one brother, Lloyd Lightel, and one sister, Midlred J. Becker, both of new Phila.
Deceased are an infant son; a brother, Bryron E. Lightel of new Phila; and a sister, Thelma Hima of San Franciso, California. Another sister, Doris May Lightel, died during childhood in Washington.
Florance was a long-time teacher, beginning at Bucy School, a one-room school about five miles out of New Phila on Oldtown Road.
She taught in Sugarcreek for a number of years before going back home to New Phila to teach at the East and Central elementary schools and at special reading classes at Welty Junior High. She retire April 1, 1972.
Funeral services were Sept 24 at Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home, new Phila. Burial was in Evergreen Burial Park.
