Philanthropist and socialite. Eliza was the wife of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton. She was the daughter of Revoluntionary War Continental General Philip Schuyler and sister to Angelica Schuyler Church. She was the mother of eight children, including Philip Hamilton, who died in a duel at Weehawken, New Jersey, on the same field on which her husband would later lose his life when Alexander was fatally shot in a duel with Aaron Burr Jr.
Eliza outlived her husband by fifty years. After Alexander's death, she moved to Washington to be with close friend and confidante Dolley Madison, with whom she raised funds for local orphanages and poor houses until her death in 1854 at the age of 97.
